Pinning!

Pinsanity! What is going on here? Over a million people are pinning away! I have my account. I have my boards. But I have only pinned one thing! I don’t know why I can’t pin. Why am I having a hard time pinning?!? I get a notification that a friend is following me on Pinterest, I go and follow them back, I look around and…I get distracted! Just like I did 5 minutes ago! Now I find myself writing instead of pinning! Here is my take on why everyone loves it.

It’s visually stunning. Everything is beautiful. If I am going to spend some quality time on my computer, I want it to be stimulating and useful, I want to learn from it and once in a while, I want to be lost in the images. No reading, just pretty pictures.

It’s a creative and an inspiring outlet. What do you want to do on your spare time? Need party ideas? Planning a wedding? Don’t know what to read next? Where should you travel? Oooh, what do you want to shop for?? Tons of great ideas!

It’s the virtual vision board What do you hope for? What do you dream of? Where do you want to be in 2 years? In 5? 10?? Lots of personal reflection going on.

The social network without the chatter. Sure you can write your thoughts after you pin, but many people are connecting with friends and strangers on things they find interesting…things they have in common…with images.

BUT we must keep an eye on it! People are worried about copyright infringement and I found an article explaining that when you sign up for Pinterest, you are acknowledging and accepting responsibility for taking the risk and accessing anything from the site. In other words, if photographers are not happy with you using their images, they can only sue you, not Pinterest. Hmmm…Let’s watch carefully? Some websites already have the pin icon on their pages, inviting you to share and pin their images…because it spreads the word, they get exposure and they sell more!

Are you on Pinterest? If so, how do you feel about it? Follow me here! I’ll be real careful where I pin!
xoxo
